Disability Sport Wales is a joint initiative with the Federation of Disability Sport Wales (FDSW) and the Sports Council for Wales.

Aims to:-

  • Develop New Clubs, Support Existing Clubs & Increase the Number of Disabled People Participating in Sport & Physical Activity.
  • To encourage children into Local Competitions which could lead to future Paralympians!
  • Provides local accessible training courses for Coaches/Volunteers. Training is also available for teachers with additional support for SEN Units.

Creating Opportunities

  • National Sports Development Programme delivered locally
  • Quality community based sporting and recreational opportunities for people throughout Wales
  • Partnership – FDSW, SCW, Local Authorities
  • Network - 22 Disability Sport Wales Development Officers

Involvement with Disability Sport

  • 6 weeks support to governing body sports
  • Adapted Sports training
  • Funding assistance
  • Taster sessions
  • Competitions
  • Sports Festival at Margam
  • Information and Training on Disability Awareness and Child Protection

Funding

  • Working with local clubs and offering assistance on completion of Grant Aid Information.
  • Funding evenings linked with local authority grants officer.

Volunteers

  • Recruitment of volunteers to working within Clubs, Schools & Colleges.

Future Priorities

  • Increase awareness of Disability Sport Wales
  • Promote Disability Sport through WRU,FAW,Dragon Sport, Governing Bodies and Disability specific organisations
  • Increase number of clubs, coaches and volunteers
  • Increase local and regional competitions
